F&M Bank is proud to announce that Chairman & CEO Steve Fisher has been installed as Chair of the North Carolina Bankers Association (NCBA) Board of Directors for the 2026-27 term. Fisher was formally installed during the NCBA's annual convention in July, succeeding Immediate Past Chair Jim Marshall, who was celebrated for his years of service to North Carolina's banking industry.
As part of the installation, Fisher accepted the NCBA's historic ceremonial gavel, a tradition dating back to the association's 1912 convention in Morehead City. The gavel carries special meaning for Fisher: it is the very same one presented to his father, Paul Fisher, when he was installed as NCBA Board Chair in 1989.
“There aren't many moments in this industry that connect you to the people who came before you quite like this one did,” said Fisher. “Holding the same gavel my father held back in 1989 was a powerful reminder of the responsibility, tradition, and trust that come with this role, and it's not something I take lightly.”
Founded in 1897, the North Carolina Bankers Association has served as the voice of the state's banking industry for more than a century, providing advocacy, education, and leadership development for member institutions statewide. Guided by its mission of “Strong Banks. Strong Communities,” the NCBA works to strengthen the financial well-being of communities across North Carolina.
Fisher's installation continues a legacy of leadership within the Fisher family and reflects F&M Bank's long-standing commitment to a stronger banking industry and the North Carolina communities it has called home for more than a century.
“Banking has always been more than a business to me; it's been a calling to serve,” Fisher added. “As chairman, my goal is to help build an NCBA that gives the next generation of North Carolina bankers what they need to strengthen the communities counting on them.”
